Sony Mobile Gaming Market With The PSP Phone

Concept ideas are nothing new to the technology market, whether driven by fan-boys desperate to see their ideal gadget realised or genuinely derived from the early stages of production. The case in point for this blog is Sony and the ‘will they, won’t they’ saga that seems to be surrounding a potential gaming-oriented PSP-phone.
Sony magazine claims that such a device is in development, somewhat conflicting with reports from CES last year that saw the head of PR for Sony Ericsson claiming that the mobile technology is not yet available to do justice to the brand. It would make perfect sense for Sony to develop such a device though, a company who has already shown its penchant for cross-branding with the Cyber-shot camera oriented range and Walkman music family. Though nothing has been confirmed yet, there are rumours circulating about an N95-style double-slider phone that reveals the PSP’s control pad under one side, with a standard phone keypad at the other.
Mobile gaming has proven a tricky market to crack, but recent reports suggest that N-Gage could be making a return to the market and if Sony sense even a hint of potential in this area it’s almost inevitable that they’ll try and compete, in which case re-branding its PSP would be the logical move.
We’re getting conflicting opinions from the horse’s mouth over the development of the project, or even if it’ll be branded as a PSP, but will get back with more news as soon as we hear anything concrete.
