Motorola considers spin-off of mobile phone business

Motorola said Thursday it is studying a possible breakup of the company in an effort “to recapture global market leadership” in the mobile phone market, and to enhance shareholder value.

Global mobile phone sales in 2008 amounted to 1.24 billion the same period last year by 10%

According to market research firm Strategy Analytics recently published research report claimed that the global mobile phone sales in 2008 will reach 1.24 billion over 2007’s 1.12 billion up 10 percent.

Starcom wins global Samsung account

Samsung becomes world’s No. 2 handset maker

Samsung Electronics reported that it sold 18.37 trillion won (US$22,.1 billion) worth of mobile handsets last year, up 22 percent from a year earlier. U.S.-based Motorola logged $19 billion in sales of handsets.
